ne question often asked of us: "why the Crow?"
The symbol's history started out easily enough as that stereotypical of all Goth icons ~ used easily in many dark movies and pictures.....and the story might have ended there ("quoth the Raven 'Nevermore'") had it not been for a premonition...

The emblem of feminine strength came together perfectly when searching through a labrynth of articles and the name of the Morrigan kept reappearring.
The Morrigan is the Celtic Goddess of war, who symbolizes feminine fearlessness, and was often depicted as a large crow who flew over battlefields. Her triplegoddess aspects included the other personas of Macha and Badb and her status as a warrior made her the perfect "candidate" for her other symbolic role: she was prayed to by those who looked to clear impossible obstacles.
The representation could not be more fitting for our fearless dancers and their oft-harrowed leader, Lady Asha, whose "battlefield" lies within the jurisdictions of Gotham City...
Further, there is something to be said about the story of Morrigan...this power of femininity over the endless forces that always seem to be trying to stifle the feminine voice, mind, and heart...I have always sensed a sadness to the human female story, and the neverending struggle and strength by women against the sadness the world sometimes places on them. Such is the story of the Morrigan...........................

*******************

Chovexani has always been more than a mere dance company ~ the heart of the operation was to look outside the very specific idea of an independant and experimental dance troupe -- and toward the independant art scene in general. What we found is a city that is slowly making it difficult to pursue and create interesting art, and where artists must go to extremes--or underground--to pursue what they love.

Morrigan Productions is a two-fold response to this issue:
